The Hills are Alive at Neptune Theatre with THE SOUND OF MUSIC! Neptune’s spectacular Holiday Show is perfect for the entire family!

Halifax, November 22, 2005 – Neptune Theatre is alive with The Sound of Music which previews tonight and opens on Friday, November 25. One of the most beloved musicals of all time will play until January 8, 2006. Created by the same talented director and choreographer who brought us Annie, this stunning theatrical event starring Sherry Garner as Maria, Nigel Bennett as Captain von Trapp, and a host of brilliant Atlantic talent, will thrill audiences during the Holiday Season.

“This show is a treat”, says Ron Ulrich, Neptune Theatre’s Artistic Director. “The story is wonderful, the music is superb, and our cast and creative team are extraordinary. The Sound of Music is a perfectly joyous experience. It is important at this time of year for families to have activities they can do together, and since The Sound of Music is truly a show for the entire family, we decided to extend this remarkable production into January.”

The Sound of Music presents the familiar story of Maria who sweeps over the hills of Austria to become the newest governess for the seven rambunctious children of stern widower Captain von Trapp. With her endearing nature and quick-witted humour, she is a breath of fresh air in a house ruled by discipline and order. Just as she captures the hearts of the Captain and his children, Maria will win audiences over with her light-hearted charm and confidence.

This Broadway and Hollywood classic sparkles on stage with Rodgers and Hammerstein’s signature songs, including “Do-Re-Mi”, “Climb Every Mountain”, and “My Favorite Things”. Brought to you by the talented team of Director, Marcia Kash, Set, Props and Costume Designer, John Craig Dinning, Musical Director, Lisa MacDougall, Choreographer, Jim White, and Lighting Designer, Leigh Ann Vardy, this sensational production will be an unforgettable family favourite.

All performances start at 7:30 pm with 2:00 pm performances on Saturdays, Sundays and select weekdays. Ticket prices are $40 for adults and $20 for youth (+HST). A Family Pack is available on select evenings which includes two adult and two youth tickets for $100 (+HST).

Neptune Theatre will hold a special performance of The Sound of Music on New Year’s Eve at 9:00 pm. This exciting event on December 31st will include champagne for adults, nonalcoholic beverages for children, hors d’oeuvres and a festive atmosphere to welcome the new year. Those who attend the New Year’s Eve show will still have time afterwards to join the HRM countdown celebrations at Grand Parade. Tickets for the New Year’s Eve performance are $85 for adults, $35 for youth, and Family Pack of two adult and two youth tickets for $200 (+HST) is also available.
