Neptunes Studio Stage highlights provocative theatre with Blue/Orange
Halifax, NS, February 24, 2004 - In the spirit of bringing specialized productions to its Studio Stage, Neptune Theatre proudly welcomes Joe Penhalls Blue/Orange, a brilliant battle of the minds, opening this week.Set in a London psychiatric hospital, Blue/Orange features an enigmatic patient who claims to be the son of an African dictator - a story that becomes unnervingly plausible. Its an incendiary tale of race, madness, and a Darwinian power struggle at the heart of a dying national health system.
This is a tough play but a great play, says General Manager Doreen Malone. It has all of the good stuff - tension, comedy and relevance.
Winner of the 2001 Olivier Award for Best Play, the Evening Standard Award for Best Play of the Year, and the Critics Circle Award for Best New Play, Blue/Orange is tough and profound new work.
Critics have had this to say about Penhalls Blue/Orange:
ä Britains best new play since Copenhagen thrillingly original says the Financial Times
ä Stinging satire The Guardian
ä Provocative, blackly funny, and taught with thought-provoking ambiguity The IndependentDirected by Jim Millan, Blue/Orange stars Nigel Bennett, Shaun Smyth and Kevin Hanchard. A Pay-What-You-Can performance will be held on Tuesday, February 24, with the show officially opening on Friday, February 27. Blue/Orange runs until March 14 on Neptunes Studio Stage.
