Neptune sets the stage for Betrayal
Halifax, NS, March 23, 2004 - Neptune Theatres Studio Series finishes strong with Harold Pinters play about betrayal on all levels.Betrayal is widely considered to be one of Pinter's finest works. A gripping study of adultery, Betrayal is the story of the ultimate love triangle. Beginning at the end of an affair between Emma and her husbands best friend, Jerry, each scene of this compelling masterpiece moves backwards in time to the fateful moment when the infidelity began.
Written by Harold Pinter, from whom the now famous affectation the Pinter Pause is dubbed, Betrayal is accessible, elegant and menacing.
And it was accorded the rare honor of "greatest play of the 20th century" by audiences at Britain's Royal National Theatre.
Once you've seen it you will understand why, says Ron Ulrich, Artistic Director Neptune Theatre. It does more with fewer words than any other play in the English language. It is a masterpiece of the unsaid, a brilliant portrait of the thoughts that lurk unspoken in the hearts and minds of men and women living a life of, in this case, betrayal.
Critics have had this say about Betrayal:
ä "Wonderfully comic dialogue"
ä "Diamond sharp writing and dramatic cunning"
ä "Gloriously written"Betrayal stars Nigel Bennett (who just completed a starring role in the critically-acclaimed Blue/Orange), Martin Evans, Marcia Kash and Stuart Martin. A Pay-What-You-Can performance will be held on Tuesday, March 23, with the show officially opening on Friday, March 26. Betrayal runs until April 11 on Neptunes Studio Stage. Ticket prices start at $10 (+tax). Shows start at 8 pm with 4:00 and 8:30 pm performances on Saturdays, and 2:00 and 7:30 pm performances on Sunday.
