Copyright 1998 Alliance-Atlantis Films. STRIKE is an upbeat and uplifting comedy about an unexpected insurrection at a staid New England Prep School. Five young women from the finest families form a secret society to discuss their dreams, hopes, calamities, eating habits, fashion accessories and, most importantly, boys. But when the very boys they lust after threaten to invade their sacred territory, the girls wage a savvy and hilarious underground war against co-education. Gaby Hoffmann ("Now and Then") stars as Odie, a beautiful, brainy young woman on the verge of ex-virginity who finds herself imprisoned by her parents at an exclusive all-girl's school. Soon, Gaby is initiated into the DAR -- Daughters of the American Ravioli -- a secret attic society devoted to making sure its member's dreams come true. In the DAR she befriends the rebellious and scheming Verena (Kirsten Dunst), the flirtatious Tinka (Monica Keena), the whiz kid Momo (Merritt Weaver) and the ravenous Tweety (Heather Matarazzo) -- and becomes the leader in their battles against arch nemesis Abby (Rachael Leigh Cook), the brown-nosing "monitor." Although the girls spin masterful schemes to sneak boys into their rooms -- especially Odie's forbidden boyfriend Dennis -- they're shocked when they accidentally learn the school may be going co-ed, merging with the all-male St. Ambrose. Boys in their rooms is one thing -- boys taking their opportunities is another. This means war and the girls hatch a hilarious plot to scandalize St. Ambrose and sabotage the merger. Seductions, intoxications and wily acts of high-spirited vengeance ensue in a series of comic misadventures that only get them deeper into trouble. Just as it seems their plans are foiled, the girls come together in a bold act of solidarity -even dragging their surprisingly unconventional head mistress (Lynn Redgrave) into the fray. In a time of raging hormones, this devoted circle of friends learn the courage to follow their hearts. |

| "This was my first chance to work with Lynn Redgrave. I was so excited about it, although I had few scenes with her. She is part of a great acting dynasty, and is a sweet and generous person. I didn't really want to play the role I ended up with; I wanted the sneaky male teacher, but they said no. The original title was 'The Hairy Bird', which, of course, refers to a certain part of the male anatomy. The studio changed it and the only reference now is the little animated bird in the opening credits." |
