Synopsis

Dr. Peyton Westlake (Darkman), disguised as a drug-selling thug, interrupts a major underworld transaction being processed by the ruthless Peter Rooker (Jeff Fahey). Rooker is involved in all forms of illegal activities under the guise of legitimate businesses, but his obsession is power. He wants control of an advanced steroid which will make his henchmen unstoppable. in turn making Rooker invincible. Enraged at Westlake's interference, Rooker and his lieutenant Nico (Nigel Bennett) escape.

Now Rooker has an added obsession. He wants to control Darkman and discover the secret of his enormous strength. To this end, Rooker enlists the aid of his mistress, the duplicitous and beautiful Dr. Bridget Thorne (Darlanne Fluegel).

Planting a sensor device in a piece of laboratory equipment which Westlake buys undercover, Bridget tracks her prey and seduces Westlake with the promise of contributing to his research. Grateful for her kindness, the tormented Westlake agrees to an experimental surgery which Bridget claims will perfect the artificial skin formula that is Westlake's aspiration. Instead, Bridget implants a strong receiver in Westlake's neck: essentially giving her control of him through the use of a high-voltage gun.

In a devastating series of confinement and torture, Rooker and Bridget nearly manage to destroy Westlake. But using his superior intellect and strength, he escapes. Knowing his only vial of experimental skin is locked in Rooker's home safe, Westlake disguises himself as Rooker and goes to Rooker's home. Tragically, Westlake (as Rooker) is drawn into a family evening with Rooker's beautiful, emotionally battered wife Angela (Roxann Biggs-Dawson) and neglected daughter Jenny (Alicia Panetta). In a tender moment with Jenny, Westlake (as Rooker) promises to attend the little girl's upcoming dance recital. Drawn by his promise to Jenny, and his growing attraction to the vulnerable Angela, Westlake again dons the disguise of Rooker, and surprises Angela and Jenny at the recital. Westlake's composure is nearly shattered when Angela tenderly holds his hand, rousing areas of Westlake's heart and emotions he thought forever dormant.

In a dramatic confrontation in a warehouse, Westlake destroys Rooker's devious aide Nico and hired thugs. Rooker himself kills Bridget. Angela and Jenny, forced there earlier by Nico, are injured. Westlake's rage overcomes the nasty Rooker who finds himself drawn into the jaws of a giant shredder. Westlake has retrieved the single vial of artificial skin and in a singular act of love, uses it to restore little Jenny's burned face. Once again, Peyton Westlake goes alone into the night.

Anecdotes

"Darkman 3 was filmed as Darkman 2. As the name may suggest, most of it was shot at night. It was exhausting. Bradford May directed it. His favourite phrase was "Cut! Print! It's in the movie!". I missed a complete birthday because I was so tired from filming!"
