Synopsis

A spacecraft glides gorgeously through the solar system toward Earth. But it's on no pleasure trip. It arrives on our planet and immediately engages two Russian MiG fighter jets in a dogfight — and turns them into dog food.

Meanwhile, not far from there, Chechen rebels hoping to salvage high-tech goodies from a downed, unmanned American military aircraft encounter a mysterious man in a cloak and slouch hat, wielding a scythe. It's an appropriate instrument — because moments later, he is a grim reaper cutting through them like wheat. The armed rebels finally surround him and bring him to a makeshift compound, where he is tortured. Perhaps that's just part of his plan to find where the rebels have kept the aircraft's all-important disk drives....

In the nearby city of Grozny, a beautiful blonde streetwalker is killed by a shadowy creature, who takes her form. Shortly thereafter, she (it?) enters a nearby Russian Army tactical-supply depot — and destroys it.

By now, Jack Bavaro, the hard-as-nails head of the U.S. government's Interceptor Force, knows that the Russian skies have seen "an unidentified inbound" with "an unspecified displacement signature" and a propulsion system unlike any known on Earth.

Translated: trouble.

Covert intel eventually indicates the craft's displacement signature is the same as that which was detected in the Mexican town of El Descanso, back when all Hell broke loose last time — back when Sean Lambert , the IF team leader, led the charge against a hostile, extraterrestrial shapeshifter in a conflict that ended with the detonation of tactical nuclear weapons.

Things are different now. This incursion has taken place within the borders of a mercurial, uncertain ally — and the alien has taken over a nuclear reactor from which "a Chernobyl-level release would make Three Mile Island look like a leaky faucet." It's a very different challenge for Lambert and his new team...and one that requires new weapons, including a microwave rifle and a chain gun that fires a 300-piece payload of razor chain.

Now, as they slowly learn the truth of what else the reactor hides besides an alien monstrosity, Earth's last line of defense against extraterrestrial invaders takes a stand. Not everyone gets out. Not everyone comes back. And where a shapeshifter is involved, not everyone is who they seem to be....

Bavaro: "Congratulations on the op in Chechnya."
Lambert: "Thank you, sir."
Bavaro: "Now tell me something useful."

interceptor03.wav
"Oh, gentlemen, by the way - don't get too comfortable. We have another situation. An unidentified inbound came down over eastern Russia seven hours ago."

interceptor05.wav
Bavaro: "An unspecified displacement signature."
Lambert: "One of the experimental jets?"
Bavaro: "Well, if it is, its propulsion system isn't fossil fuel based."

interceptor13.wav
Bavaro: "I want you to take an I-Force team and go back to Russia."
"When do I pick my team?"
Bavaro: "You don't."

interceptor16.wav
"You are no longer a gun for hire. You are employed by an organization that reports directly to the NSC, the CIA, the FBI and ultimately, the President himself. You are required to execute your orders in exactly the manner in which they're given to you. Now, I've got a lot of other people out there - do you want this mission, or not?"

interceptor20.wav
"The worst of the worst of the uranium byproduct class. A Chernobyl-level release from that baby would make Three Mile Island look like a leaky faucet."

interceptor21.wav
"We have to get that thing out of there with no collateral damage."

interceptor22.wav
"She's clearly not a lady to piss off."

interceptor27.wav
"The nuclear plant at Grozny has been taken. There's no contact, no word of hostages or survivors. Hell, we don't even know if the reactor's still online."

interceptor28.wav
"Listen, that nuclear plant has six times as much uranium fuel as the one in Chernobyl. If it starts leaking, the whole world gets a taste."

interceptor30.wav
Lambert: "No."
Bavaro: "Yes."
Lambert: "No!"
Bavaro: "I want you to take a science officer along with you."

interceptor32.wav
"Cause you're going to obey my orders over there exactly as I give them to you. No exceptions. You understand?"

interceptor35.wav
"At the moment we have the speciman contained inside the plant. If it gets outside again we have a much bigger problem."

interceptor42.wav
"Investigate if you must, but remember your priority is containment and extermination."

interceptor44.wav
"From the description, it seems like ten S7 class ICBM warheads" have been configured for simulataneous detonation inside the plant. Now I need blast radius and fallout patterns - now!"

interceptor47.wav
"The clock is literally ticking, ladies and gentlemen. Every second counts."

interceptor50.wav
"Now all we need is to know when it was set, and if we can get someone to that detonator on time."

interceptor51.wav
"Mr. President, I recommned putting Air Force One into secured airspace immediately. Call the G-8 countries and inform them of the situation. Yes sir. God help us all."

interceptor53.wav
"That's a joint Russian-American taskforce. They're carrying deep impact missles. If we don't have an answer in five minutes, they're gonna lauch. I need Lambert on the wire now!"

interceptor55.wav
Bavaro: "People, we have four minutes to transmit override codes to all those missles."
"There's over fifty."
Bavaro: "Well, that means we have a awful lot of work to do and not much time to do it. Come on!"

interceptor57.wav
"Well, it doesn't get much closer than that."

interceptor59.wav
"Well, I'm sorry, Mr. President, but we can't seem to locate him just at the moment, but I will pass on your personal congratulations on another mission accomplised. Thank you."
