Anecdotes

"This was the second of my child abuse pieces. It seemed at the time that everything was about that particular subject, which I find very depressing. The cast was stellar though, as I remember. The thing that sticks in my mind really was the final recall audition. It was in a hotel room, and the director and casting director were the only people there. I had started , and was ploughing on manfully, when the director suddenly stood up and said, "OK. That's enough." I stuttered to a stop and, not realising what he had said, asked him what he wanted me to do differently. He laughed and gently informed me that the part was mine! This is the only time in my whole career that this happened. Huge smile plastered on face, I left, only to see two other hopefuls waiting outside as I did. I wonder if they knew??"
