Synopsis

Edward Woodward stars as Edward "Teddy" Harrison, a proper but cunning detective, widowed and retiring from Scotland Yard. On his way to Australia, he travels to New York to visit his daughter Cecilia. He meets Cecilia's live-in boyfriend, Frank, a New York City cop. Teddy and Frank become embroiled in a case of serial killings that involve the IRA and police corruption. With their style, logic and skills, they solve the case and prove that once a cop, always a cop.

Anecdotes

"The Shamrock Conspiracy was originally filmed as Once a Cop. It starred Edward Woodward of Equalizer fame, and the object of one of my favourite jokes. "What do you call a man with a piece of wood on his head........Edward. What do you call a man with three pieces of wood on his head?......Edward Woodward." Well, I like it anyway. We filmed in the freezing cold of a Toronto January, and more than one night of work was lost to the temperature. The camera just froze up. It wouldn't work. There was what is known in the business as a car hit. A guy was hit by a car, and I was in the passenger seat. Of course, the glass shattered in the windshield, and I was covered in it, yet everyone was concerned with the stunt man. I just sat very still indeed and wailed for someone to help."
