Ratings can make or break a television show and no one knows that better than EYE ON GOTHAM's ace reporter, Gerry Millar (LAURA LEIGHTON). Her exclusive release of a photograph that depicts serial killer, Ralph Peralta (RICHARD McMILLAN), on her show is making headline news. She seems to know more about this guy than the New York Police Department.

Detectives Muldoon (SCOTT GLENN) and Halloran (COURTNEY B. VANCE) have other ideas about this media-endorsed 'witch hunt.' Despite the fact it's Christmas in one of the world's fastest-paced cities, they still have to keep the streets safe for the general public and Millar's broadcasts aren't making it easy for them to do their job.

When Muldoon's undercover cab is stuck in traffic, he discovers the reason for the delay is that New Yorkers are mobbing a Ralph Peralta look-alike. Muldoon arrives on the scene only after the vengeance-seeking crowd manages to kick an innocent man to death.

Later Millar receives an e-mail warning of another impending victim at Sierra Blanca's (JUAN CHIORAN) gallery opening. Instead of alerting police that this crazy person may still be alive and planning more murder and mayhem, Millar goes immediately to the gallery with her video crew so she can 'scoop' the story. As luck would have it, she arrives just after the murder of the famed artist and the shooting of his companion, Eva (BARBARA WILLIAMS), who also happens to be Muldoon's girlfriend.

From that moment forward, Muldoon takes a personal interest in apprehending the serial killer. Halloran wants to help his partner and during his 'off-time' confronts Millar. If she continues to put her show's ratings ahead of the law, it will be her conscience she must face if someone else is murdered.

Anecdotes

"It was great to work with Scott Glenn and Courtney B. Vance, two of the best actors around, but to be directed by Peter Bogdanovich -- I was in heaven. Scott was very, very private and Courtney hated the cold, especially when I told him it was actually quite mild for Toronto. Peter was a wonderful person to work with, although I have to admit that every time he spoke to me, ‘Last Picture Show' ran through my head. Who said hero worship was dead?"
