A CHILD'S CHRISTMAS IN WALES

"Years and years and years ago, when I was a boy, when there were wolves in Wales, and birds the color of red-flannel petticoats whisked past the harp-shaped hills, when we sang and wallowed all night and day in caves that smelt like Sunday afternoons in damp front farmhouse parlors, and we chased, with the jawbones of deacons, the English and the bears, before the motor car, before the wheel, before the duchess-faced horse, when we rode the daft and happy hills bareback, it snowed and it snowed."

Synopsis

A Child's Christmas in Wales takes you on a lyrical journey into the heart of an old man. A journey back to the magic and marvel of boyhood where no two moments were ever alike and life was embraced with belief instead of doubt. On this special Christmas Eve, Old Geraint shares these heartwarming memories with his dearly loved grandson, Thomas. In one evening he does more than recall his cherished youth ... he relives it.

"Sleep, my child, and peace attend thee
All through the night
Guardian angels God will send thee
All through the night
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping
Till unveiled in slumber sleeping
By my love in vigil keeping
All through the night."

Anecdotes

"A Child's Christmas in Wales was actually shot over Christmas in Toronto. A complete Welsh cottage was built in studio with fireplace and everything. It was so beautiful! When it came to the carol singing after dinner, there was not a single dry eye in the house. Gwynnyth Walsh, who played my wife in this, later played the Lieutenant of Detectives in "Soft Deceit". We still keep in touch."
