| Catch A Falling Star, a two-hour romantic comedy, produced by CITADEL Entertainment (an ALLIANCE ATLANTIS Company), focuses on Sydney Clarke (Sela Ward), one of Hollywood's leading ladies. She is at the top of her career, making movie after movie while her neurotic, manipulative and powerful manager, Fran Kramer (Jane Curtin) carefully orchestrates her every move.
As Sydney shoots her latest film on location in small town New England, the media is typically relentless about her impending wedding to Hollywood leading man, Ryan Stern (Andrew Jackson). Then, when things take a turn for the worse on set, Sydney takes a break only to find Ryan in the arms of her stand-in. Frustrated, angry and humiliated, she storms into the nearby woods and promptly finds herself lost. Sydney ends up in the picturesque town of Bethlehem, and finds herself in a bowling alley to use the phone. At once, she is befriended by Joyce (Rebecca Jenkins), the straight talking but salt-of-the-earth waitress. Unrecognized by Joyce, Sydney enjoys the anonymity and reverts to her given name, Cheryl Belson, from Mississippi. It's in the bowling alley that Sydney also meets the handsome Ben O'Bannon (John Slattery) with whom she shares an instant chemistry. Refreshed and comforted around these down-to-earth people, Sydney decides to stay a while, leaving everyone in Hollywood guessing as to her whereabouts. Invited to stay with Joyce, Sydney decides to get a job and applies as a temporary replacement for the nurse at the local steel mill - after all, she once played a nurse in a film. Luckily for Sydney, it is Ben who's doing the hiring. Increasingly, Sydney finds herself pleasingly detached from her life back in Hollywood. However, when her identity is inevitably revealed, Ben feels duped and their budding romance comes to an instant halt. Torn between wanting a new "real" life or the high profile career she's worked so hard for, Sydney soon finds that making decisions without a script and personal manager is a complex, heartbreaking, but ultimately empowering experience. |
