Set in Toronto and Cannes, Paint Cans is a satirical comedy about a trendy, middle-aged government film bureaucrat named Wick Burns. Trouble begins when his old film school chum, the slick and good looking Vittorio Musso comes into his office one day and proposes to make a 'meta-film'. He is backed by sleazy producer Neville Lewis and his flamboyant sidekick Morton Ridgewell. Meanwhile, Bryson Vautour (Nigel Bennett), Wick's boss at the Film Financing Agency of Canada, is up for promotion and is a constant thorn in Wick's side. Copyright 1994 Salter Street Films. Wick Burns: "He sits in front of the TV all day long. He looks at the pictures, but no one knows if he has any idea what's going on." | |||||||||||||||
| "Paint Cans was a very biographical piece. Paul Donovan, the director, based it upon his own experiences with Telefilm Canada, a government funded film funding body. Needless to say, they didn't put any money into the piece! It was also one of the first things that Neve Campbell did. I remember her being very quiet, and very worried about the content of one of her scenes which was quite erotic. I think she was embarrassed." |
